Heroes II ~ FAQ


Savegames are in the /GAMES/ folder.
*.GM1 : scenario SW solo
*.GM2 : scenario SW 2 human players
*.GMC : campaign SW
*.GX1 : scenario POL solo (+players?)
*.GXC : campaign POL

High scores are in the /DATA/ folder
STANDARD.HS : Scenario scores (SW & PoL)
CAMPAIGN.HS : Campaign scores (SW & PoL)
Deleting these 2 files reset scores.
Windows shortcut:
In the Heroes2 shortcut, you can modify the launching.
/D0 - turn off sound effects
/M0 - turn off MIDI musics
/R0 - turn off CD audio musics
/I0 - jump introduction videos
exemple : C:\Heroes II\Heroes2w.exe /I0 /R0

Maybe on Windows XP, Heroes of Might and Magic II doesn't works ;
you just need to change the compatibility of Heroes2w.exe to put it to: windows 95 or 98 mode.
How to do: right click on the shortcut, Properties, Campatibility and to check on the
"execute this program in compatibility mode for" and then choose Windows 98 or 98.
Estimates of neutral creatures:
1-4 : Few
5-9 : Several
10-19 : Pack
20-49 : Lots
50-99 : Horde
100-249 : Throng
250-499 : Swarm
500-999 : Zounds
1000-4000 : Legion
The highest number of "neutral" creatures in an army on the adventure map, is 4000.

A gold mine provides 2000gold to AI, Statue provides +500gold/day.


AI varies with chosen level; from "dumb" to "Smart".
Rating % is the rate applied to the score if you win. There is 2 rates: Game Difficulty and Map Difficulty. See the table below:

Multiplayer Handicap :
Hands tied = -15% resources at the start and for each turn
Hands chained = -30% resources at the start and for each turn

This handicap works on daily incomes (gold and resources) from Mines, Artifacts, Estates, Castles, Towns, Statues, Donjons.

Morale (-3 treason;-2 Awful;-1 Poor;0 Normal;+1 Good;+2 Great;+3 Blood)
Luck (-3 cursed (pretty sure cannot occur in the game..);-2 Awful;-1 Bad;0 Normal;+1 Good;+2 Great;+3 Irish)
you can have luck -2 by visiting empty pyramid ;) Other than that, bad luck in H2 is VERY rare thing. I think, I have not ever seen it happening in the game. :)

in game code (heroes2 free engine @ github) I found creature speed 0 "standing", although I'm sure it can never occur in the game. Maybe it's added in there for whatever reason.

Final score formula is: difficulty*(200-n*k)
where n is days spent and k is map size factor(S 1.4;M 1;L0.8, XL 0.6).
All results are rounded down. (example: 198,99 will result in 198.)
MAX score possible in regular map is 440.

You need 9 marketplaces to get the best exchange rates.
You need 5 thieves guilds to see max info about your enemies.
